The Listen Up! lessons incorporate kinesthetic learning modes and active musical behavior such as singing, moving, chanting, and creating. When actively engaged, children form a more meaningful connection with the music as they strengthen their learning skills. Sample experiences using music listening excerpts allow an opportunity to listen to select musical pieces and reinforce given musical concepts that are prominent in the selections. A wide range of music genres and styles is used from an ancient Irish tune to a Beatles’ song. Besides presenting listening lessons ready to use with students, Gault provides strategies to use in developing new listening lessons.

The book includes a dedicated companion website of slides for each lesson with visual material that students can vew and respond to as they listen.
