Hey!  Hi, friend!  I’m talking to you!

You!  The new teacher of elementary music;

Or you, who is reflecting on the school year that has passed and is thinking about how you might like to extend the learning;

Or you, who is contemplating if the new year coming up is the time to change things up a bit and trade some of your tried and true lessons for something different;

Or, you who is so excited by your summer experience in Levels that you’re itching to explore and experiment with all the new things you discovered;

No matter your situation, I have some ideas for you that I hope will be helpful when it comes to!

If you are considering adding ukulele, creating additional opportunities for percussion ensembles, or finally tackling that fear of starting recorder, we’d like to share our thoughts on the instrumental components of building your elementary music classroom!  Barred instruments, mallets, drums, unpitched percussion, and more will be what we’re discussing.  We’re excited to help you navigate it all and to get exactly what you need!

Oh, an by the way…. about that word, “instrumentarium?”  Ha!  I think Orff teachers may have made this word up because everyone I’ve encountered uses it.  This word is not in the dictionary and will definitely show up on your spell checker!  Well, it means a collection of instruments used in the general music classroom that includes barred instruments, recorders, drums, unpitched percussion, ukuleles, etc.  Anyway….

Next up:  We’ll be talking barred instruments!
